Michael Bay Tells Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Fans To “Chill Out”
You may have read M-dawg’s post the other day about his outrage of the news that Michael Bay is directing the new TMNT movie. Bay recently made an announcement that he was making changes to the Turtles origin story. “Kids are going to believe one day [that] these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie,” Bay said. “These turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny and completely loveable.”
After this comment, outrage from fans (including our very own M-dawg) hit the internet in a furious rage of fanboy hate. Websites were writing angry blogs, fans flooded messageboards and even TMNT voice talent Robbie Rist (Michelangelo) spoke out against the changing of the origin. “Dear Michael Bay.
You probably don’t know me but I did some voice work on the first set of movies that you are starting to talk about sodomizing.” he wrote on his Facebook Timeline, ending it with “The rape of our childhood memories continues…..”
Now Bay wrote in his own website a reply asking people to chill out…
“Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story. Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world.”
Oh where to begin…
Look, we get it Michael Bay… you’re pretty hot stuff. You do big movies, you like big explosions, and lately you think everything has to be an alien. But honestly… why do you think people are just going to settle down and not express anger.
The whole origin of the Turtles is that is a homage to the comics they loved at the time of their creation. “Mutant” because of books like the X-men… and really the rest of it is a big nod to the comic book Daredevil. (Radioactive can from a runaway truck, The ninja clan in DD is The Hand, in TMNT it’s the Foot, DD’s mentor is named “Stick” in TMNT it’s “Splinter”)
You don’t have to see many of my blog entries to know that we here at OMBG are purists at heart. We love the stories as they come out, as they were originally supposed to be portrayed. It’s not a shocker that we are very opposed to the biggest movie making D-bag since Schumacher ruined the Batman franchise. The word “mutant” is in the name not “alien”. What’s in a name? Do a little history at how well the word “ninja” went over in Japan when they tried to market the turtles there before you consider messing with origins, words and other tidbits.
And seriously… what’s with this guy and aliens?
Now It’s Personal Michael Bay!!
Hey guys. For those who may not known, I love the Ninja Turtles. I grew up watching the cartoon, I have all three original movies on VHS and have two copies of the first three movies on DVD and the CG movie on DVD as well, a case full of old action figures, bed sheets, a TMNT backpack full of TMNT water bottles, and posters of TMNT…I’m a fan. So when word began to spread about the new movie and how it was a live action movie that was to be dark and gritty, I was excited….until today when I read an article about the movie.
Michael Bay, who has already ruined the Transformers for many die hard fans of that franchise, is a producer for the new Ninja Turtles movie. And he has teased some information about the upcoming movie, more specifically, the origin of the Turtles.
Yes, he’s changing the origin of the Turtles….he’s making them aliens.
Yeah….ALIENS!! HE’S MAKING THEM ALIENS!!!
What is with this guy and aliens?!?!? WHY DOES HE HAVE TO RUIN THE CHILDHOODS OF SO MANY PEOPLE!?!?!
As you can tell, I’m not happy about this. There’s a reason why the book is called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s because they’re MUTANTS…NOT ALIENS!!
This had better be just some sort of stupid idea he has for the movie. And I really hope Kevin Eastman puts a stop to this as well.
You don’t mess with the origin story. You can change whatever else you want about the Turtles, but don’t change the origin. If that actually becomes the origin for the new movie, there’s a very VERY good chance that I will not be seeing this movie.
Later guys.
New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game In Development….But By Whom?
For those who don’t know, I am a huge Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan. I grew up watching the cartoon, live action movies, more recently reading the comics, and most importantly, playing the video games. In particular, Turtles in Time.
Now, the Turtles franchise has gone through multiple reboots over the years and there is yet another franchise reboot on its way. The franchise is now owned by Nickelodeon. Since Nickelodeon owns the franchise, they are taking the opportunity bring a new animated series to their network, a live action movie reboot is in the works, IDW has re-released the original comic books starting at issue #1, and now there is word of a new video game to go along with all of the other reboots. Now the question is, “Who will develop this game?”
A few months ago there was a rumor going around that Rocksteady, who made the Batman: Arkham series, was going to be making the TMNT game reboot. To be honest, when I heard this news I was pretty excited. I love the dark, gritty feel that Rocksteady gave to the Batman universe in their games and could only imagine what the Turtles would look like in a universe similar to what Rocksteady had created for Batman. And I think the gameplay would be similar to that of the Arkham games in the use of stealth and quick attacks. It almost seemed like the perfect fit for the Turtles. There is a problem though. Rocksteady Games are owned by Warner Brothers, and Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom. Which would make things difficult as far as Rocksteady working on a Turtles game. Which is why there is now a rumor that Activision will be developing the TMNT video game and that it will be a tie in with the upcoming animated series. Activision would probably be the more likely of the two developers to be chosen to make the game, not only because Activision isn’t owned by a rival parent company, but if Nickelodeon wants to make a game based on the new series, then they’ll want a game that will appeal to the target audience of the new show, which will be kids. And I don’t think parents will want their kids playing a Turtles game that’s dark and violent. Then again, parents let their kids play games like Call of Duty and Halo so who knows?
I’d personally like to the a Rocksteady version of a Ninja Turtles game, but I’m an adult and a big fan of the original comics which were dark and violent. But all I know is that the Turtles are coming back and I’m very happy about that. Although the show and game will both likely appeal to a younger audience, the original comics and upcoming live action game will be darker and will appeal to the older Turtle fans like myself.
So who do you think should make the new Ninja Turtles game? Should it be targeted for the kids or the adults? Should they make a game for both? Let me know!!
