The Grammys Need To Get Off My Lawn…
I noticed on news feeds this morning that The Grammys were last night. I shrugged and went on with my morning coffee. Somewhere along my 3rd cup of liquid goodness, I sat on the balcony scrolling through posts and news of the event and thought to myself why it really wasn’t registering with me as this being a big deal.
I figured it out pretty quick. We’ve never been fans of popular music, and to this day I have come to the conclusion that pop music, for the most part equals crap. I mean, if we trusted other people to make our choices as to what “good” is, we would be running a very different podcast. The problem with art is that it is really not as quantifiable as something like say… a business plan or the most fuel efficient car out there. I mean if we gave out awards for the best mileage on a SUV, it would be clearly printed on black and white, but dealing with music, film, writing, any of these things, we leave it up to popular vote, and lets face it… your friends at the water cooler wouldn’t know good music if it bit them on the ass. It’s not they’re fault really, I mean they only have the options that are laid out for them. They spend their time online reading other people’s facebook pages and comparing their lives to their neighbor and co workers, they don’t bother to try anything new or find something interesting they can call their own.
You got to figure yourself pretty lucky in that respect, I mean, you don’t listen for just our drunken banter. I hope that we have done what we have set out what to do. We originally brought you this podcast because we thought that a lot of bands (our friends in particular) deserved to be heard. There are shows going on in your town regularly, and sometimes a band will come around that may never be in town again… They will never make it famous, and you may never get the chance to be wowed by them or meet them. There is also a chance that it may not be your cup of tea, but honestly I think I would rather spend my free time checking out a show meeting people and having an open mind than sitting on Facebook wondering what every one else is doing.
As for me, I stopped believing in award shows the year Titanic beat both Starship Troopers and Contact for best special effects. I mean seriously… you built a model boat and sank it. Ugh.
In other news:
-We caught a hell of a show at the Texan Saturday night. Poor Favor, Toxic Fuse, Cherrybombers and Bertha ripped it up pretty good. You can catch 3 out of 4 of these bands’ interviews in our interview section.
- Worlds Scariest Police Chases is coming out with their new album in April. It will be 80′s style hardcore songs themed about the po-po. Should be good you can check out their earlier demo on their bandcamp page.
Some Ghost Rider 2 News
Supp?
I was just reading some news about the upcoming sequel/reboot Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and I noticed something rather interesting that could suggest that another character will take up the Ghost Rider mantle after this movie.
For those who don’t know, Ghost Rider 2 takes place a few years after the events of the first movie and follow Johnny Blaze(played once again by Nic Cage) as he hides out in Eastern Europe trying to find a way to rid himself of the Ghost Rider curse. He is approached by a monk who intends on “hiring” the Ghost Rider to protect a mother and her son who are being pursued by the Devil, who intends on using the boy as a human vessel. The only reason Blaze accepts is because he is given the impression that his curse could be lifted by helping.
Now here’s the catch. The son’s name is Danny Ketch. For those who don’t know, Dan Ketch is the name of the man who takes over the Ghost Rider mantle from Johnny Blaze in the comics. I didn’t even catch this before. I figured that the mother and son characters were original characters created for the movie( a la Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight). I didn’t even think to look up character names. Knowing that the kid that Blaze is protecting is a major character from the source material could mean that there could be a character change after this movie is over. Let’s face it, Nic Cage is not the youngest guy out there playing super heroes these days. He probably won’t be doing too many of the big time action movies for too much longer( I’m still waiting on National Treasure 3 so I can find out what was on that damn page).
Anyway, to me, even though I like Nic Cage, I think it’s time to move on to another Rider as far as the source material is concerned. And the inclusion of the character of Dan Ketch, even as a child, suggests that a Rider change could happen. I hope that directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and the writers have taken the source material into consideration and make that change. But I guess we will have to wait and see on February 17th.
Laterz!!
New Consoles Rumored To Be Revealed at E3 and Some 720 News
Well, the rumors just keep on flying in the video game world. It is now rumored that several new consoles will be revealed at this years E3. These include: The XBox 720, PS4, and the 3DS Lite.
Now, the 720 and the PS4 have had rumors flying around for the past couple of years, but the 3DS Lite is news to me(there could have been rumors going around and I haven’t been paying attention, so sue me for having a day job).
Anyway, if these new systems are in fact revealed this summer than the next couple of years are gonna be pretty exciting in the gaming world. We know for a fact that the Wii U will be released soon and Sony and Microsoft both have a lot of hype concerning their new consoles, especially with the XBox 720. The newest rumor to surface about the 720 is that it might feature a DVR device. Well, with the new app additions and the eventual semi TV service that will become available through XBox Live, having a DVR system would be a great idea.
But wait, that’s not all!! Along with a rumored DVR the 720 is also rumored to support the also rumored Kinect 2 hardware. Now the Kinect 2′s sensor is rumored to be so advanced that it will even be able to read the users lips. Now if you ask me, that’s pretty fucking scary.
Well, there you have it. Rumors rumors everywhere but not a fact to be found….yet? Next week will be the Consumer Electronics Showcase(or CES) event. Which is where the 720 was rumored to be revealed a couple of months ago if you don’t remember. So maybe there will be some news that could help shed some light on all these rumors running around.
Til next time. Peace!!
