Ghost Rider 2

Some Ghost Rider 2 News

Supp? I was just reading some news about the upcoming sequel/reboot Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and I noticed something rather interesting that could suggest that another character will take up the Ghost Rider mantle after this movie. For those who don’t know, Ghost Rider 2 takes place a few years after the events of the first movie and follow Johnny Blaze(played once again by Nic Cage) as he hides out in Eastern Europe trying to find a way to rid himself of the Ghost Rider curse. He is approached by a monk who intends on “hiring” the Ghost Rider to protect a mother and her son who are being pursued by the Devil, who intends on using the boy as a human vessel. The only reason Blaze accepts is because he is given the impression that his curse could be lifted by helping. Now here’s the catch. The son’s name is Danny Ketch. For those who don’t know, Dan Ketch is the name of the man who takes over the Ghost Rider mantle from Johnny Blaze in the comics. I didn’t even catch this before. I figured that the mother and son characters were original characters created for the movie( a la Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight). I didn’t even think to look up character names. Knowing that the kid that Blaze is protecting is a major character from the source material could mean that there could be a character change after this movie is over. Let’s face it, Nic Cage is not the youngest guy out there playing super heroes these days. He probably won’t be doing too many of the big time action movies for too much longer( I’m still waiting on National Treasure 3 so I can find out what was on that damn page). Anyway, to me, even though I like Nic Cage, I think it’s time to move on to another Rider as far as the source material is concerned. And the inclusion of the character of Dan Ketch, even as a child, suggests that a Rider change could happen. I hope that directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and the writers have taken the source material into consideration and make that change. But I guess we will have to wait and see on February 17th. Laterz!!
