News on the movie front lately is that Spike Lee is in talks to direct the remake of  The South Korean cult revenge masterpiece “Oldboy”.   Normally I don’t care about remakes. I have become resigned to the fact that movies are a million dollar business and they are financed by people who have millions of dollars, not by people who see cinema as a work of art. Like anything that is awesome and from the heart (music, writing, design) true art is often pushed aside to appease those with no sense of something… great. I mean let’s face it, rich investors only want to invest things to make them more rich. What’s going to make them rich? I know! They will take the best visceral revenge movie with an original plot of all time, only this time instead of those pesky foreign people, they will add in a director who is known for adding his own racial social commentary to his projects. If that’s not enough… we’ll add Will Smith too. (Seriously it is rumored he me be the lead role) I mean why settle for an original idea when you can take a dump all over the old one? In case you have never seen OLDBOY, go rent it or something before it’s image is forever tainted. It has the single best fight scene I have ever seen….(check out the knife in his back about a minute forty in)
