At long last it has arrived! Exactly seven years to the day of the release of the XBOX 360, the XBOX One has launched and is now available for purchase.
While many who pre-ordered the console stood outside countless Best Buys, Gamestops, and other retail stores to get their systems, this gamer waited until I got off of work on Friday and bought it.
Thus, I’ve had a full Saturday to hook up and get to know my new XBOX. Like going on a first date with a girl, I was a little nervous when I opened the box. I had spent most of Friday reading articles about consumers who had gotten their Ones having problems with the system. Most of which being a broken disc drive that made a horrific grinding noise when a disc was inserted, the console crashing while loading the mandatory day 1 update(which is needed for the system to function), and reports of the system not working at all. Now I know hardware launches never go without it’s snags. Last week’s PS4 launch had some issues with consoles not working as well, but this is the first major console I was going to purchase on day 1. As you can imagine, I was on edge this morning when I woke up.
So I bit the bullet, and hooked it up. I got freaked out when I connected it to my wireless internet and I got an error message about the Day 1 Update, but the update installed just fine after turning the system off and turning it back on. So I passed the update test, now to see how the disc drive worked. I put in Assassin’s Creed 4, and it worked just fine.
Ok, now I’ll get on to the feel and specifics of the system. The dashboard has a different look than the 360 version, but it pretty much works the same. The, “Snap,” feature, which allows you to have two apps working at the same time, for example, you can be playing a game while watching something on Netflix, is a bit unnecessary. For me, it will work great while watching a football game and keeping up on my fantasy team stats, or I can Skype with someone while playing a game. Other than that, I don’t really have a need for the feature.
I’m sure some of you are wondering about my take on the Kinect 2.0. I didn’t plug it in, it’s still in it’s box. So there ya go.
The system runs much faster than it’s older cousin. What would take my 360 30-45 seconds to boot from the time I press the power button to getting to the dashboard now only takes 15-20 seconds. Apps and games boot up quicker(although the installs for disc based games may help with that).
I’m glad that there’s finally a Blu-Ray drive with the XBOX One. The only Blu-Ray I own is Red vs Blue, and it looks awesome. Can’t wait to purchase more Blu-Rays so I can see more.
Now while I’m talking about visual aspects that come along with the XBOX One, I guess I should talk about my gaming experience with it. The new controller looks and feels great. Microsoft didn’t stray far from the design of the 360 controller, which, in my opinion, is the closest you can get the perfect gaming controller. The D-Pad has much been much improved and it works great. The analog sticks move more freely, which can take a little bit of getting used to after seven years of using the 360 sticks.
Now for the games, or game in my case. I purchased Assassin’s Creed 4 with my XBOX One, and it looks gorgeous. The opening cinematic features our protagonist, Edward Kenway, having a conversation with his wife. The detail is much more noticeable in the character design then it would’ve been in the 360 version. Goosebumps and freckles were detailed on the skin of the characters, that’s the amount of detail that was displayed. So far, I’m enjoying the game, and I will get a review up ASAP.
Overall, the XBOX One hasn’t disappointed me. Is there room for improvement? Absolutely. The system is far from perfect, but if you get a console that doesn’t have any issues, you’ll be happy with what the XBOX One has to offer. With future system updates, it will be a powerhouse of a console.
It’s been a long time coming for Microsoft fans, but today, Microsoft and XBox finally revealed the release date for the XBox One!!!
*Drum Roll* Ladies and gentlemen! The XBox One will become available for purchase on November 11th, 2013!!
Yes, I realize this is exactly one week after the release of the Playstion 4, but this date is very special to Xbox gamers. The Xbox 360 had it’s launch exactly 8 years prior to the XBox One.
On top of the release date, more info has been released about the system on the tech side of things. Microsoft stated that the CPU has been given an upgrade. The One’s CPU will now run at 1.75 GHZ instead of the originally announced 1.6 GHZ, which is a 10% upgrade from it’s original spec.
Microsoft has also stated that the One will be able to support up to 8 controllers at one time, while the PS4 will only support 4. It also has been said that Microsoft will allow indie game developers the freedom of naming their own price points for their games.
I, for one, am excited for the XBOX One, I have been since it was first announced and revealed. Now that a launch date has been announced, I’m feeling more excited.
Til next time!
Sup guys? So some DLC for Bioshock Infinite has finally been announced and released! Here are some details.
So right now, you can download for a mere $4.99 for the “Clash in the Clouds,” challenge map pack. This DLC is combat focused and includes four arena maps where you take on waves of enemies trying to complete challenges, sixty challenges to be exact. If the player is able to complete all sixty challenges, you will unlock bonus content in the Columbia Archeological Society, which includes bonus Voxophones and concept art.
The second piece of DLC will be a two part story called, “Burial at Sea.” This will involve Booker and Elizabeth, or, now knowing that there are multiple timelines in the Bioshock universe, some version of Booker and Elizabeth, making their way around the city that started it all, Rapture! The DLC will be taking place during Raptures hey day, right before the infamous fall of the city under the sea. “Burial at Sea,” seems to be having a film noir type of story to it, which is pretty cool to me. Booker, of course, will be a private investigator, but Elizabeth looks like she will take on a role of a femme fatale.
The story will include a new weapon, instead of vigors, plasmids are coming back, and best of all, Big Daddy’s will be making a return! C’mon, you can’t be running around Rapture without encountering some Big Daddys.
Like I said before, “Burial at Sea,” will be split into two parts. In part one, you will be playing as Booker Dewitt, and in part two you will actually take on the role of Elizabeth for the first time. It hasn’t been revealed what her gameplay will be like.
I personally can’t wait for “Burial at Sea.” I’m anxious to see if they’re gonna tie the short time Booker and Elizabeth were in Rapture at the end of the Infinite campaign into that story or if they are just doing a new story in the same universe. Each part will be $14.99, but no released date has been set. Check out the trailers for “Clash in Clouds,” and “Burial at Sea.”
If there’s one thing that is a constant, it’s that Internet outrage always produces results, and after Microsoft’s press conference at this years E3, the Internet once again made their voices heard, and once again, the Internet has won.
After the backlash from consumers about Microsoft’s DRM, always online, and used game policy that was revealed at E3, Microsoft has released a statement stating that they have changed those policies for the XBox One.
You will now be able to play disc based games without having to be connected to the Internet, where before, you were required to have you console connected to the Internet at least once every 24 hours. Microsoft’s statement said that you will only need to have you XBO connected for a system setup and then there is no need to be connected again. Now does this mean you need to connect your console when you insert a new game for the first time or just your system when you first plug it in? I’m not sure.
As far as the DRM issue is concerned, they are getting rid of it.
Now, probably the biggest point of outrage about the XBO, used games. You WILL be able to sell, trade, lend and rent XBox One games without having to pay any type of fee.
So basically, the XBox One will follow the same policies on DRM, Internet connectivity and used games as the XBox 360.
I pre-ordered my XBOX One last week before Microsoft backtracked on these policies. I was cool with the controversy surrounding the system. I felt Microsoft was getting the gaming community ready for the future of gaming. Eventually there won’t be a disc drive on your console and you will need to be connected to the Internet at all times to play, but I see why Microsoft has decided to make these changes though.
Congrats Internet, you’ve won yet again.
As you may remember, I did an interview with Jeremy from GAME.minder back in March. In April, he let the community know that GAME.minder was in danger of shutting down due to financial troubles.
After massive amounts of feedback from the community the guys at GAME.minder has started an Indie GoGo campaign to raise money to make GAME.minder subscription based. Go to their campaign page on Indiegogo and check out what their need are!
GAME.minder is a great service if you are a gamer. Help make sure it keeps going!
Hey guys, so we have ourselves a new trailer for next installment of Ubisofts cash cow franchise, Assassn’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. Take a look.
Now, an Assassin’s Creed game wouldn’t be what it is without it giving it’s fans a little bit of a history lesson, and Black Flag seems to be no different.
I really like what they did with this trailer by giving the history of piracy, and what had happened to these British privateers that made them revert to becoming ruthless pirates and playing by their own rules.
Since the announcement trailer we knew that Blackbeard would be a major character in the game, but now we know that other notable pirates like Calico Jack and Charles Vane will play a part as well, which is pretty cool. Everybody knows who Blackbeard is, some may not know about any others like that, but that’s what the AC franchise does well with basing their games during real historical events.
What do you guys think about the AC history lesson? Cool? Not Cool?
Hey guys, got some news today concerning Assassin’s Creed.
First of all, some stuff in regards to the upcoming DLC, “The Tyranny of King Washington.”
As you may know, “The Tyranny of King Washington” takes us into an alternate reality in which George Washington, the hero of the American Revolution, has become the evil king of America, and the only one who can stop him is a Mohawk by the name of Ratonhnhake:ton. (I’m just gonna call him Connor).
Here’s the reveal trailer that was released at this past years Video Game Awards.
And this next trailer showcases the new Connor.
By the looks of it, the reality that this story takes place in will portray Connor as if he never interacted with General Washington during the war an played no part in his victory over the British. But we will see. “The Tyranny of King Washington” will be available to download February 19th.
Now, in other Assassin’s Creed news. Ubisoft has stated that the next installment in the franchise is in development and is set to release within the next fiscal year. Along with that, Ubisoft also announced that the new title will feature and new Assassin, a new setting, and a new time period.
On one side, I’m a little bummed that Connor is getting the Altair treatment and getting one exclusive game in the series. But at the same time, I’m excited to see where the franchise is going. Early rumors are that the next installment will take place in ancient China, which will be pretty cool, but we will just have to wait and see.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Laters!
What up?!?! Here’s what’s going on.
Well, Assassin’s Creed 3 is OUT!!! So go pick up a copy. As I am typing this, I have not been able to pick up a copy. But that’s a whole other thing. So last week I gave you the UK Launch trailer for the game. This week I have the US launch trailer! Which rules!!

Well guys, we are a week away from Assassin’s Creed 3, and I’m very excited! All of the trailers and behind the scenes videos have been leading up to this, and I’ve got a couple more videos to tide us over until next Tuesday.
First of all, I’ve got a fan film made by a group called Corridor Digital, inspired by the Assassin’s Creed 3 trailer. It’s very well made. Check it out!
The ending was kinda cheesy, I know, but the actor they got to play Connor really got his moves down well.
Next, I’ve got the launch trailer for AC3. Check it!
Next, I’ve got the opening cinematic for the game, which gives us a refresher course of Desmond’s journey for those who haven’t played any of the previous titles. Check it out!
Finally I have a television commercial for the game that features Connor writing the Declaration of Independence while taking down some Red Coats and Templars. Pretty cool stuff. Here it is!
That’s it for Assassin’s Creed. Now we move on to Halo 4! As you know, we are a mere two weeks away from the release of Halo 4! For those who haven’t seen the launch trailer, entitled “Scanned,” or the latest episode of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn, check out the blog I posted last Friday!
Now, a new trailer has been released for Bioshock: Infinite! Not only does it give a little bit of insight into the story, but we also have a release date! Check it out here!
Very cool. Bioshock has always been a franchise that has intrigued me. And Infinite is looking to be no exception to that. City in the sky? I mean come on!
Lastly, as I said in the title, there’s gonna be an added bonus to this weeks video game news. And it has nothing to do with video games.
Well, the first official trailer for Iron Man 3 has been released!! AND IT’S AWESOME!!!! Check! This! Out!
Awesome! I really can’t wait to see how they are going to bring the Extremis story to life and still make it grounded in reality. Does it seem a little Dark Knight Rises-ish? Yes. But overall, Iron Man 3 looks pretty intense.
Anyway, that’s it for now. Later!
…..I’m back!! Sorry, after watching that trailer I had to go change my pants. Oh my God! Halo has been known to have pretty epic launch trailers, but this one takes the cake. Live action. We see Master Chief as a child being taken from his family to be put into the Spartan Program. The Promethians. Just awesome!
Also, we have Part 3 of Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn. And here it is!
I can’t wait to see live action Master Chief in action in the next episode! And how badass was that Elite!!
That’s all I got for now! Later!
